Description -

A unique 8 x 10 toned cyanotype print on premium watercolor paper. Each print is matted to fit an 11 x 14 frame with acid-free mat board, signed and named on the back. Unlike traditional cobalt blue cyanotypes, each print is toned with tannic acid (tea) for an antique look and image stabilization. Each print is shipped in an acid-free cellophane bag for protection.

Please note that although I make every effort to correctly reproduce the image, every monitor is different. The final product may differ slightly in person from what you see on your screen. Also note that the final print will not have an intrusive watermark on it.

The Process -

The cyanotype process was invented in 1842 by Sir John Hershal, an astronomer looking for a way to copy his notes. They are the first photographic prints to be reproduced in book form (algae illustrations by Anna Atkins) and up until fairly recently were used to reproduce blueprints.

Cyanotypes are a UV contact print process - they require a negative as large as the print and sunlight to develop - no darkroom required. Unlike traditional alternative processes, I photograph with a digital camera and print digital negatives to produce my cyanotypes.

Because the emulsion for each print is hand brushed onto the paper and the final print is toned, no two prints will be exactly alike. Each print is a unique archival treasure that will last for many years.
