Makers Gotta Meet!

We couldn't agree more and are thrilled to hear about a new venture that Sandra from Raincoast Cottage is starting.  As 2013 reared its head, Sandra made her manifesto for the year and it's something we can all enjoy and learn from.

Here's the basics:

- we all need to create

- we are best inspired by many different art forms

- we need community

- people need to experience the arts together

An idea that she has had for quite some time has finally blossomed, and we're delighted to present...

“Come shop for one-of-a-kind items in a casual environment,” invites Andrea Tucker, one half of the husband-wife production team. “The artists love chatting about their creative process and we have free workshops so everyone can go home with their own D.I.Y. project!”

The vendor list grew by 45% for the holiday show, now featuring 80 artists who make everything from chocolate to cards and clothes, so that shoppers can buy themselves a present or knockeverything...

Last weekend in Vancouver was a big one for the holiday shoppers. There were all kinds of shows, events and interesting ways to get your shopping done. But the most interesting of all, was the Make It! Show, a craft show with a twist, and by twist I mean booze and music. We had the pleasure of sponsoring the event this year and we are super proud of all our sellers that crushed it this past weekend. We met some of the awesome people behind the Cargoh stores that have made our venue what it is, got to talk to a whole host of new sellers that will be popping up on the site in the next few days, and had a ton of fun spreading the Cargoh love to almost 6000 new friends!

We wanted to say thanks to Jenna and Chandler, our gracious hosts, for putting on such a great event. It was their biggest show ever, and very well deserved indeed! If you're in the hood, be sure to check out their Edmonton show coming up...

Once again, kids, it's time for another amazing show by our friends at Catalog Gallery.  Tonight (Friday, November 5th from 6pm-late at Catalog Gallery 56 Powell St Gastown, Vancouver, BC.) they present a collection of beautiful women captured by three Vancouver based photographers, Lincoln Clarkes, Byron Dauncey and Jen Osborne. The selected photographs focus on vulnerability linked to beauty, and beauty linked with power.

And I have to admit, their creative team at Catalog Creative shoot promo videos for their shows better than anyone I have ever seen!

I'd been looking for the perfect album for summer and I've finally found it in Jeremy Fisher's Goodbye Blue Monday. His dreamy indie folk/pop is reminiscent of Paul Simon's early solo work (think Me & Julio or Kodachrome) but with its own distinctly Canadian flavour.

He'll be touring this Summer with Hannah Georgas, Aidan Knight and the members of Said the Whale as The Malahat Review, all playing each others songs. And all their songs are amazing, so don't miss it.
